I know they are Poly-E. or P.P. type plastic, but will spray paint hold up? Also any hints / ideas on cleaning,,bringing back 'some' of the color...ThxAnyone ever have any luck , painting LITTLE TIKES outdoor toys?
You can use most cleaners on toys like that, just be sure to rinse them well %26amp; then let them dry in the sun.
Krylon makes a spray paint called Fusion that is made just for use on plastic. The trick is to paint several light coats, letting each coat dry thoroughly. Good luck!!Anyone ever have any luck , painting LITTLE TIKES outdoor toys?

We have obtained an old painting that is an outdoor scene with the painters initials of E.H. Who is E.H.? ?
The painting is very dark and muted. We have obtained an old painting that is an outdoor scene with the painters initials of E.H. Who is E.H.? ?
There are several artists with those initials. Could you photograph the signature and a portion of the image to help me identify? What does the medium seem to be (i.e., oil, tempera, watercolor, etc.)? Any other distinguishing marks or pieces of information would be helpful. If it is framed in what looks to be original framing, it will help to narrow the time period as well. Being dark and muted could be a sign of style and/or age of the work.

What to do about rubber feet making marks on outdoor painted surface?
I have those resin chairs that have rubber feet. The feet make marks on my painted porch. The marks are removable using Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser, but I was wondering how to prevent these marks in the first place. The rubber wheels on my grill make these marks also. I was thinking denatured or rubbing alcohol, but I don't know if it will ruin the rubber. Any thoughts? Thanks! What to do about rubber feet making marks on outdoor painted surface?
Stick the little felt pads you use for indoor furniture on hardwood floors on the rubber feet. What to do about rubber feet making marks on outdoor painted surface?
Yes I think you will have to replace the rubber feet with something else. There are white and light grey feet you might be able to get.
Replace the rubber feet with teflon.

Painting over outdoor 'treated Timber'?
I wish to paint over a new 'Treated' picket fence which the suppliers state '' Can be painted ''
Can you please advise me the best type of Undercoat to use for weather protection?
The top coat will be in a Gloss paint..
Thank you for any help.
Wally.Painting over outdoor 'treated Timber'?
Exterior grade oil primer.
Make sure the lumber is completely dry before painting. The treating process puts a significant amount of water in the wood, it can take a few months to dry out. Also, it is common for manufacturers to put a water repellent sealer on this type of product at the treating plant. If present, it needs to come off before you paint.
After priming with oil primer, you may paint after completely dry with an oil paint. If you are using a latex based paint, you will need to wait at least 2 days for the primer to dry completely. There is no problem with latex over an oil primer other than this and it is much easier to deal with.
Also, make sure you cover all surfaces of the fence when painting for best results. Don't forget the bottom edge of the pickets.Painting over outdoor 'treated Timber'?
do not use any latex based primers on pressure treated lumber. USE OIL BASED. With latex the material used to treat the lumber will bleed through and caused yellowing. Use a high quality oiled based product. I use oil based exterior KILZ...it is cheap and fast drying...1 hour. Then use an good quality oiled based paint as topcoat. Do this and you will be happy with the results with smiles and grins as wide and bright as a rainbow,
the new latex based exterior primers are excellent. If they stick to the fence like they do to my skin and hair then they should do the trick. Oil is always good, but I think that these days the latex based are just as good if not better. For the average do it yourselfer the latex is probably less irritating to use also. Good luck and may you never have to paint your fence again. Remember 2 coats of finish is always best. Take your time and use top grade products(that is brushes, rollers and paint) They may be a little expensive but will make your job go easier and last longer.

Outdoor house painting and wood replacement...?
My home is mostly brick, but the soffit/facia/trim wood is all in need of a repainting. My handyman said the wood (about 30+ yrs old) needs to be replaced now, or in 5 years. Another option is to have all this covered in siding so it is maintenance free. Would I need to replace the wood for that option too? What's my best course of action? Thanks.Outdoor house painting and wood replacement...?
Bull sheet I have been painting houses for 25 years and have only replaced rotted wood , to replace it just because it is old is ridiculous, old wood is actually much harder than new wood, so the answer is NO

Hi,
What's his reason that the wood needs replacing? Never saw 30 year old house that required all the trim to be replaced. If it was that bad then covering it up is a worse solution. Get a carpenter to inspect the trim.
Paint won't last long on 30 year old wood.
If the wood is not rotted vinyl can be installed over it.
If it's near rotted, replace it.
Only an installer can tell, since I can't see it from here.dry hair

I handpainted w/acrylic paints an outdoor clay pot..What do I final coat it with to protect it from moisture?
A good sealer coat, matt or low-sheen will do. But! do not forget the inside if this is a terra-cotta pot or is low-fired. If you plant anything in it then water will leach out through the pot and lift off your painted design. Two or three coats of the waterproof sealer you use on the outside will do. If there is any chance of water getting into the pot, even just rain still seal it even though you may not use it as a planter.I handpainted w/acrylic paints an outdoor clay pot..What do I final coat it with to protect it from moisture?

Spray several coats of clear spray acrylic paint on your clay pot. Let it dry completely between coats, and spray it on evenly so you don't get run streaks in the clear-coat.
get an outdoor/waterproof sealer from a craft or hardware store

Can paint turtles survive in an outdoor pond environment in Ohio?
We just inherited 2 paint turtles that a family had kept in an aquarium. We have a small 500 gallon goldfish pond outdoors with about 30 goldfish of different sizes.
If we put the turtles in the pond, could they survive? Would we need to take them out in the winter? The fish seem to survive the winters fine.
Also, would the turtles eat the fish?
I know this is more than one question and I would like to say in advance that I appreciate the help. Thanks. Can paint turtles survive in an outdoor pond environment in Ohio?
They may not eat the goldfish but they will bite at them. Unless you heat the pond, I would bring the turtles indoors for the winter. During the warm weather, you just have to insure that they don't wander off.Can paint turtles survive in an outdoor pond environment in Ohio?

Why isnt galvanized steel used in bridges and other outdoor structures to avoid constant painting?
Most galvanizing is accomplished by hot-dipping metals into a vat. There is a maximum limitation (size of available vats) on the length of dipping a single member. There is also considerable expense in galvanizing. I have read some reports on experimental bridges that are completely galvanized.
At this time, galvanizing of bridges is just experimental and is not used for several reasons: (1)most DOTs now use A588 Weathering Steel for many applications that does not require painting or coating at all, (2) painting is cheaper than galvanizing, (3) welding on galvanized metals produces toxic fumes, (4) size limitation, (5) cost, and (6) production schedule. Why isnt galvanized steel used in bridges and other outdoor structures to avoid constant painting?

WHAT PAINT TYPE IS GOOD FOR WOOD? OUTDOOR CONDITIONS?
If you just want to put a color on your wall, paint is the answer. I'd recommend priming the bare wood first. A water based primer will work fine. Also, you might want to caulk up any joints between the wood. After it's primed, get an ';exterior'; paint. It's meant to hold up to the sun and weather, and I'd put down 2 coats of that. If you have a lot of surface area to deal with, I'd recommend renting an airless paint sprayer. You could spray two whole coats in a day and be done with it. Hope this helps!WHAT PAINT TYPE IS GOOD FOR WOOD? OUTDOOR CONDITIONS?

Are car paints design for outdoor living?
Some of us dont have a close garage and our cars just sit outside whatever wheather there is, rain or shine.. Now, do the cars paint designed for rain-or-shine situation? Or does it fade faster? Unfortunately we dont have a closed garage in our place. Are car paints design for outdoor living?
Automotive paints are designed to resist exposure to several things, including UV rays, chemicals and solvents, salt, and other corrosives.
With leaving a car outside, the main thing that will wear your paint out faster is letting all the crud from rain, dust, dirt, etc. build up on the car, and having them rub off. This is what causes most of the light scratch and swirl marks on a vehicle, causing a dull appearance. Sunlight will also fade a paintjob, but not anytime soon. Modern chemistry has been turning out very durable paints lately. Are car paints design for outdoor living?
Nope. Sorry, automotive paint is designed for indoor use only.
What do you think the answer is? Cars are meant to be operated outdoors and exposed to the elements. Wouldn't it make sense that the paint is made to withstand this treatment? Just keep it clean and waxed, and it will last a long time, in a garage or not.
Depends on the year model make. More expensive cars have a pearl coat proteting it.Usually fade is related with older cars. But somtimes things can get disolved into the paint causing small stains.

Decorative painting around outdoor pool?
I've been asked to help a friend paint some designs on the concrete around her pool. What prep is needed for the concrete, and what kind of paint is used? Do we seal it after painting? ThanksDecorative painting around outdoor pool?
There is special concrete paint. It is weather resistant and comes in a variety of colors.
For 'high traffic' areas an epoxy ester or a 2 component catalyzed epoxy coating would be useful.
You could even do the design in chalk and use the epoxy to fix it in place. But that would be pretty experimental.

Are there any outdoor paints for drawing murals?
i need some paint for drawing a mural on an outdoor wall please helpAre there any outdoor paints for drawing murals?
Acrylic or oil based paint. You can even get a bunch of those small cans they sell at the hardware (since you need a substantial amount of paint for a mural, I would go this route. Buying tubes of acrylic paint at a art or hobby store will get pricey in a hurry. They're essentially the same as the latex-type paint sold at Lowes or Home Depot)
The only thing you absolutely don't want to do is use ';poster paints'; (tempera). Sometimes there sold as a powder that you mix with water. These will be wiped out the first time it rains on them. Are there any outdoor paints for drawing murals?
monet painted outside quite a bit, you may want to look him up and find what paints and mediums he used. I just use oils for outdoor things and acryllics for my drywall paintings. Also go to sherwin williams and ask them
Good luck, if you need more help let me know. Dont use tempura because that is waht Davincci used and it cracked and peeled.
Acrylic is best. But if you are strict with the budget, use house paint (latex) it works just fine :) just choose the best brand in your country.

I need advice for decorative painting on an outdoor wood project.?
I have been asked to paint a swing set. An exterior satin finished latex has already been purchased, for the basecoat. I am planning to use my acrylics for the decorative painting. But I am not sure how to finish it. Can I just use a water sealing product (ex: Thompson's Waterseal), or should I use a clear coat? If a clearcoat is the way to go, are there any suggestions on which one to use and how long after I paint should I wait to apply it? I really want this to be durable and lasting. It is for a very special little girl, my grand-daughter. Thank you to everyone who chooses to help me. Peace!I need advice for decorative painting on an outdoor wood project.?
Use the acrylic sealant that you can buy at any paint store or arts and crafts store. Wait until it COMPLETLY drys (your creation) then apply the sealant. Let that dry and apply a second coat. And try this after the acrylic sealants are completely dried and coated. Put a polyurathan seal over all of it. It will smooth it out and have an EXTREME lasting quality. You'd have to give that swingset a lot of torture to remove a couple coats of the poly...Good luck!!!I need advice for decorative painting on an outdoor wood project.?
Get J.W. painters finishing wax. After you have decided the best varnish to put over the painting apply the finishing wax and I would apply a spray varnish and this wax every 6 months or so more often. (I apply to all wood products and I apply to all my wood seasonal out door decor before I put them outside each season) It repels the water and keeps the painting in nice shape. J.W. has a website but I don't know what it is. You can buy the wax at www.vikingwoodcrafts.com.
Happy Painting!
UPDATE: In the June 2007 Issue of PaintWorks magazine there is a very helpful and informative article by the CEO (Sandra Croy) of JW Etc. On varnishing and types of varnish and what to use to protect wood products. I thought it was very informative and would be very helpful for your project. For instance she tells you when to varnish and how to varnish and what to varnish with for different things. She even tells you when to use Matte Finish, Satin Finish and Gloss Finish! Which I never knew... just always used Satin. Good luck.
Unfortunately, there is nothing that you can paint on wood that will last a really long time. However, hopefully you used a very high quality exterior paint rated with a 25 year life. Your acrylics should have been high end, light fast artist grade, and not the less expensive varieties. After that, you can seal with a polymer spray meant expressly for acrylics. Home Depot used to carry it. I used it on a public art piece and it worked well. It comes in matte or gloss. Good luck!

Vinyl Sheds - Can These Outdoor Storage Sheds Be Painted?
I'm assembling my shed from a custom plan and thinking whether or not to paint it.Vinyl Sheds - Can These Outdoor Storage Sheds Be Painted?
Vinyl sheds should not be painted. In fact, they don't require painting as they're built from a durable material (like those Duramax sheds).
But if you want to paint them, make sure to use paint that's made for vinyl (PVC). It should be part of your shed plans.Vinyl Sheds - Can These Outdoor Storage Sheds Be Painted?
YES! You can paint vinyl, however, you have to have a paint that is made for vinyl. You can find it at larger home improvement stores. Yes...it would be better not to paint because once painted, you'll have to continue to paint, like wood. BUT if you hate the color, paint the sucker! Hope this helps...cause it will be lovely when you're done. Godloveya.dry hair

Do I have to sand some painted white outdoor chairs that have become chalky before I repaint them?
The chairs were originally stained, but painted white about 7 years ago. Now the paint is chalkyDo I have to sand some painted white outdoor chairs that have become chalky before I repaint them?
Yes, definately strip and resand, otherwise the fresh paint will chip.Do I have to sand some painted white outdoor chairs that have become chalky before I repaint them?
Either sand or use a paint stripper. But if you use the stripper, you should still sand. When you sand, you open up the grains for the paint to stick to. And you really should use primer first. So if i were you, use stripper, sand, primer, then paint. I work in a cabinet factory doing this everyday. Only with cabinets.
Yes, sand them first.
wash them with soap and water using a soft cloth such as an old towel or wash cloth to remove the chalky dust, since that is what it is. you'll need to keep running water to let the dust fall off, then allow to dry thoroughly, preferab ly in warm sunlight. once dry, dust them off with a clean soft cloth to remove any residual dust left behind. then do the preperation and re-paint. use an oil-base rather than water base paint. the house type for exteriors would be best.
if you sand it, use a fine sand-paper and make sure you get the dust off afterwards. the paint will adhere better
Yes you have to sand the old off or it will end up a mess with cracking, and splitting of the paint.
Your might check the phone book or newspapers. there should be a furniture refinishing place near you which for about 10 bucks each would dip your chairs in a vat for removing the old paint and stain completely,. Just becareful and wear gloves using any paints, stains removers, and keep away form kids.\
Also a friend used oven cleaner and scrubbers to remove old varnish and paint from an old mantle.
Apply and allow to set over night and try it.
Yes you have to sand them down and then u have to primer them since they were stained before so the stain does not bleed through the new paint.
You never said if they were metal or wood, since they are outdoor chairs I'll presume they are not wood. First you will need to sand them, not to remove all the paint just to rough up the finish so the new paint will stick. Then wipe them down with mineral spirits to remove dust and contaminants. Prime any bare metal with a good bare metal primer. Paint with a good exterior metal paint. Personally I've had great results with Rustoleum, but no matter what you use, several light thin coats are ALWAYS better than one or two HEAVY coats. If your gonna take the time to do the project, do yourself and favor and do not rush the last step, take your time. You'll be glad you did!

if you sand it, use a fine sand-paper and make sure you get the dust off afterwards. the paint will adhere better
Outdoor faucet threads painted and repainted?
I have an outdoor faucet that has had the threads connecting to the house painted over many times. The faucet was leaking so I attempted to replace. Anyway, the copper pipe came out of the house a little bit and twisted. I stopped before it got worse. Is there a way to overcome the painted threads so I can replace the faucet?Outdoor faucet threads painted and repainted?
you can heat the pipe to remove the paint, however you dont want to melt the solder joint holding your threaded adaptor in place. so dont remove water in the pipe until you take off old fixture. also it will require 2 tools to remove, one to hold copper to keep from twisting and the other to remove the hosebib(faucet). it will be best to repair kinked copper line and install new threaded adaptor.Outdoor faucet threads painted and repainted?
I would replace the faucet and pipe. Follow the pipe into the house, cut it just before the twist in the pipe. sweat a connector on then cut a piece of pipe same as the old one and install along with the faucet.
if you have a torch, heat faucet and it will loosen paint and thread sealant, turn off water first, also there may be some water left in faucet and pipe after water in turned off, that you will have to boil off
try a torch and a wire brush just melt it off and clean with brush

Prepare Outdoor Shead for Painting?
I have an outdoor shead which I need to paint. What steps should I take before actually painting and what kind of paint should I use?Prepare Outdoor Shead for Painting?
1st power wash it clean , use a product called ';Jomax'; it will remove any mildew %26amp; dirt and if you don't have access to a power washer you can use your garden hose, read the directions on the container for instructions. If your shed doesn't have a coating on it now then use a quality solid color stain, stick with stains on new wood because your prep work in the future will be minamal, I like the acrylic solid stains and have very good luck (2 coats in 20 yrs) on sheds. If it does have a coating again stick with the acyrlic paints, Good luck Les the painterPrepare Outdoor Shead for Painting?
Just paint it with exterior paint. It will cover a multitude of problems.

Painting a mural on outdoor plastic lawn furniture?
Hi. I want to paint a mural (with a paint brush) on molded plastic outdoor furniture. It stays outdoors all year.
I've tried really good primer, acrylic paint, and a sealer but after one season, it started peeling.
Has anyone successfully painted outdoor plastic?Painting a mural on outdoor plastic lawn furniture?
Primers and paint do not adhere well to plastic - there is no absorption into the material. You can sand ( roughen) the plastic to improve the adhesion of the prime to the plastic.
Just a thought - how about automotive paint? Seems to weather well but not designed for brush application.Painting a mural on outdoor plastic lawn furniture?
I think trem clad makes a spraypaint for plastic furniture.

Painting an outdoor railing?
Recently, i decided that the railing outside my house needed painting. The railing is just outside my front door and runs along a few steps. Firstly, what are the tools i am going to need? What type of paint (brand, base, etc) should i use? Are there any things i need to do before i start? How should i clean up? And are there any health risks or anything of the sort i need to be careful about...?
Thanks in advance...=)Painting an outdoor railing?
any time you're paint a metal or slick surface your need to prep and prime
even if the iron has been painted and is flat, you should sand it down, and then prime over it. Behr paint at the home depot has an exterior line of paint and primer in one that is great! it saves you money and time since you don't have to wait for the first coat to dry or buy a second can. it should take one coat and then it's done! what ever you decide to do, prep is the most important aspect of painting. if your paint is peeling or rusted or shiny, you must sand and prime. I always recommend primer because it's an adhesive which acts as a clean slate so your new paint bonds and lasts.Painting an outdoor railing?
It depends on whether the railing is wrought iron or wood.
For a wood railing...Standard brushes, standard paints, standard primer. (Primer and paint made for Exterior surfaces, tho.) You might buy a tiny roller brush to do the job, too.
If the railing is wrought iron...first remove all rust with chemicals, steel wool, etc.
Then prime it using a primer made specifically for metals.
And finally paint it using paint made specifically for metals. If the railing has twists in it, there is a special brush you can buy that paints around these twists. (The brush itself is twisted.)
Good luck.
Is the railing wood or wrought iron? Each is handled differently. You will need a good brush and a tarp, but for the paint type more info is needed. Hope this helps.
EDIT: First and most important step is the preparation. Use a wire brush to remove any rust or loose paint. You can use one with a handle or get the wire brush attachment for a drill. Once you have the old cleaned up, prime it. Use an exterior oil based primer for best results. If you plan to paint a dark color, have your primer tinted. This will make coverage easier for the finish paint. Next, apply 2 coats of oil based exterior enamel. Be sure to lay a tarp down. This has a tendency to drip, and it will stain whatever it drips on. To apply the paint, you can get a lambs wool mitt. Makes it very easy to paint the spindles. Just dip your hand in the paint tray and then wrap it around the spindle. Down and back up, then on to the next one. Good luck..

Painting an Outdoor Fountain for a Client?
Hello- I am painting an outdoor fountain for a client 8ft diameter 7 feet high - What type of paint to use - would like to do a tuscan faux finis on it...any suggestions? what to charge? It's is for a California WineryPainting an Outdoor Fountain for a Client?
If your there tomorrow I'll contact my brother he's good at that stuffPainting an Outdoor Fountain for a Client?
sherwin-williams masonry paint. there are several kinds but you want the flat finish. there is special preparations that you need to follow.. I don't sell paint but I know for a fact that sherwin-williams has what you need.. as for as price of painting.. I wouldn't do it for less than 3 to 5 k...good luck
You should probably ask this in sculpture {unless there's an architecture group around here somewhere.}
You MAY be able to stain the mortar, but you cannot paint a fountain successfully. That is, you can paint it, but the paint will quickly wear off. You would do better to attach new ceramic tiles in a color you prefer. For faux finishing outdoors, you expect the surface to crack off, just like it does in Venice, where Tuscan finishes originated.
Remember how the Venetians did it during the Renaissance. You should have learned that in your landscape architecture classes. Then think how much more water a fountain gets in a week than a Venetian wall does in a year. I think you will do a serious disservice to your client if you try to paint the fountain.dry hair

I have a painting question concerning outdoor mold ?
Can you paint over mold ?I have a painting question concerning outdoor mold ?
You can paint mold any color you want. The thing is, the mold(which is a plant) will die and let go of the surface it is sticking to and fall off. So will the paint ';on its back';.
That is why you read the instructions on the can. Clean surfaces of mold, grease, flaking paint, dirt and anything else that is not firmly affixed.
Use TSP solution and wash the area down first, let dry and then sand with sandpaper and dust off with a rag and then paint.
Any outdoor primer will do(never worried about, or even needed Bin or Kilz - which are more ';stain stoppers'; rather than primers).
I personally like alykd primer. Add a little paint thinner to the paint 10-15%(I always seperate the paint into 2 pots when I got a full gallon-then I have room to add). Stir it in with a stir stick and the brush it on a cleaned surface. It goes on better than straight out of the can(using a natural bristle brush) and dries faster and harder. Let that dry a day, sand lightly to make smooth to your hand without sanding through the primer, and then apply the top coat...of whatever you want(Latex or Oil based paint) I would go for Hi gloss paint as it seems you are in an area that has a lot of moisture and not much air flow(the home of moss and mold). Gloss paint is a ';tighter'; finish with minimal pore size.I have a painting question concerning outdoor mold ?
Wish you luck on this as no paint will kill mildew/mold. You must kill it with a bleach solution or product made to kill it. I've done quickies where the customer needed fast more than best and it always resurfaces through the paint, whether it's oil or latex. And sanding, is dependent on the surfac
You can, but You Shouldn't.
You need to kill the mildew (black) or mold (whatever color) with a 1/2 bleach 1/2 water solution. Then wash that off with water after you see the mildew/mold change color or disappear, preferably before the bleach water solution dries, with water (damp sponge, etc.). Then you can paint with latex or oil based paints.
If you don't do this, it will continue to grow through whatever paint or primer you apply.
Creviced, I do not mean to argue with you. But lord knows you left a critical thing out.
After spraying with a Bleach and water based solution (then letting completely dry), you need to be aware that one must sand the remaining solution prior to painting any surface with a Bin Zisser or Kilz product. The adherant quality is important to the end solution. After sealing with such a good product, then paint.
Then paint all that you wish. It will do NO further harm.
yes you can try but put some KILTZ primer on it first. i think its water based i know it work inside

What sort of waterproof paint or ink would I use on a vinyl outdoor banner?
If its just a one off event then cheap acrylics from somewhere like The Works will be fine.
Powder poster paint mixed with 50/50 pva and water would also work if you're on a tight budget, allow at least 24 hours to dry.
you could use any paint in theory, if it is solvent based, then you need to protect the banner, if it is waterbased, then you need to protect the paint afterwards.
try acyrlics, they dry fast, and with a acrylic fabric medium, will make the paint be flexible so should not peel off whith the banner moving. they may not survive too many frosts however.
try not to put the paint on unevenly, and if you do, then apply heavy in solid colour - as the brush strokes show up when painting on gloss surfaces, and they look really naff.
Acrylic spray is better for lettering, as you can mask the letters, and produce a nice 'snow effect with the spray can, Plasticoe is sold in DIY shops.
also a translucent spray will allow you to put a subtle tone over the whole banner, without loosing the shin effect. keep it simple for best effect - less is more.
Any acrylic paint will work as it is plastic based. If you need cheap paint try getting unused left-over latex house paint from friends. It is the same thing and will work great.

Can I use acrylic paints on an outdoor wood item to withstand any weather?
Yeah, go for it. Use a sealer to try to make it last as long as possible. No matter what, everything needs a touch up sometime. Good luck. Can I use acrylic paints on an outdoor wood item to withstand any weather?
Yes, they are very strong, just make sure that none of the grain of the wood is exposed to keep water from getting under and raising the grain which will cause peeling. Using the acrylic medium after you are done with your color to seal it is a good idea. I once used it to patch a place on my car where the clear coat chipped off and it withstood the weather for years until I sold the car.Can I use acrylic paints on an outdoor wood item to withstand any weather?
yes. acrylic is plastic, but make sure nothing can seep up around it to peel it off, cuz you want it to last forever, eventho the wood never will unless you bury it, but then no one will be able to see it, so what would be the point of doing that?
Clear Coat it
My friend did it and it lasted for years, gel medium it too.
yes you can do this although you have to put a clear coat over it to withstand the weather
yea. use acrylic enamel specifically for wood. you sacrifice on the pigment but gives you better weather resistance.
acrylic paints can be used ..check the can if it doesn't say exterior, it probably won't make it. If you use exterior latex paint be sure to buy cheaper painting tools (brush etc) that way you don't have to fight with clean up. Beacuse latex takes forever to clean up. Good luck
I Think You Would Be Better Off With Proper Paint.

What wood works best for an outdoor project that will be painted?
Do I go with pressure treated pine or regular pine (or other type of wood) (because of the mostiure content) I am looking to replace the railings on my deck with white and add a pergola. They need to be white to match other surrounding elements. Also what kind of paint? (oil-based, exterior?)
One note: please don't say cedar, since paint and cedar don't react well together. Thanks in advance!!!What wood works best for an outdoor project that will be painted?
I built my deck and pergola with pressure treated pine and spent the next 5 years pressure washing it every year then I went to Plan B..
Use pressure treated lumber - if the deck/pergola is mostly in the shade let the lumber dry out for a year. If it is in the sun let it dry for a few months.
Plan B is to paint the wood with exterior latex paint after the drying period. It has been many years and the painted surfaces look great and have never been power washed.
If you use non pressure treated wood you will eventually have rot problems wherever 2 or more boards meet. What wood works best for an outdoor project that will be painted?
My choice would be pressure treated lumber (usually fir). The price is right and if properly coated with an oil based primer and oil based topcoats will last a very long time. Will require re-coating down the road but the look is worth it. There is another outdoor lumber being used now. Ipe is a VERY durable lumber used primarily for decks. Very strong and long lasting, but hard on tools and the pocket book. Worth checking out though!
I believe that pressure treated pine would be fine to use because of the weather. Also mahogany would be fine but a little more expensive.
Poplar is good if you can get it in sizes you need .
Relatively hard ,remains straight %26amp; paints well.
Gonna say it anyhow...cedar.
I have a white painted porch w/ cedar posts,railing %26amp; ballusters..
Youre right.
If not properly primed, cedar resins will discolor paint.
I primed w/ Killz %26amp; then used Benjamin Moore, latex, Moorglow exterior white
Porch has been painted 3 times in 15 years.
It has remained bright w/ no problems.
One trick is to backprime everything before building ,esp ends which can discolor.
Also , use stainless nails %26amp; screws to avoid corrosion by the resins which give the wood it's durability.
Pressure treated lumber is never all that straight %26amp; does not paint up as well as properly sealed cedar for my money.
Cedar...really.
Best regards
It doesn't really matter. Whatever wood you use, make sure it is well dried before you paint it. When I build new stuff, I'll let it stand unfinished for at least a couple of months before I paint it, that way all the volatile elements will have evaporated out of the wood and it will accept the finish better.
You will need to use a good primer first before painting or else the wood oils and/or preservatives will bleed through the paint. Definitely use exterior paint, but there are good quality latex products available so you don't have to go through the pain of cleaning up the oil-based stuff. If you don't mind the mess, you will probably get a slightly longer life out of the oil-based products.

Can an outdoor cork bulletin board be painted for weather protection?
We bought a cork bulletin board for our outdoor kiosk. This board will be exposed to all sorts of weather conditions and we wonder if painting the front and back would keep the cork from buckling etc.If painted we want to be sure that pins and staples can easily be stuck into the board. Which paint would be suitable? Can an outdoor cork bulletin board be painted for weather protection?
Doesn't cork come from tree bark?
Isn't it already waterproof? Can an outdoor cork bulletin board be painted for weather protection?
cork board doesn't rot easily and is not really that expensive to replace. keep it as it is.

What can I do to weather-proof my painted, wood pergola (outdoor structure)?
What can I do to weather-proof my painted, wood pergola (outdoor structure)? Rain pools on the top of the wood. So the paint doesn鈥檛 protect the wood through even one Oregon winter.. Has anyone tried copper tape or some other material on the top surface of the wood? Or is there some type of special paint that would be weather-proof and long-lasting?What can I do to weather-proof my painted, wood pergola (outdoor structure)?
Give the structure a nice new coat of paint and then let it dry. After that, purchase and apply Marine Grade Clear Polyurethane over it. I'm sure you'll be able to find it in Oregon. Have you tried Thompson's Water Seal?dry hair
Give the structure a nice new coat of paint and then let it dry. After that, purchase and apply Marine Grade Clear Polyurethane over it. I'm sure you'll be able to find it in Oregon. What should I use to paint an outdoor covered wood patio?
I recently had my back porch redone with a half porch half covered screened in patio. To reduce costs I told the contractor not to put anything on the flooring - so now it is up to me to finish the project. I have a 13x8 covered patio that will recieve some moisture and rain due to being outside - the floor is 1 inch thick sheet flooring. I do not want to use outdoor carpet and it will not look good just to sand and stain this flooring (tile is not an option due to weather and moisture changes that will cause it to crack) - so I am left with painting it with something. I have looked at polyurethane flooring but needs some recomendations to go with or even a company that does this sort of work? Any other ideas are also welcomed. Thanks - DanielWhat should I use to paint an outdoor covered wood patio?

With metal outdoor furniture that will rust if not covered. Is there any type of rubberized paint to protect.?
JC Whitney sells a spray on bed liner that is rubber based. I used it on my wifes metal patio furniture. you can get it in several colors. With metal outdoor furniture that will rust if not covered. Is there any type of rubberized paint to protect.?

I have never heard of a rubberized paint, but Rust-Oleum makes a paint that bonds with the rust and you don't have to remove it first.
I use Rustoleum on mine.
you could use the type of paint they use to spray in pickup truck beds available at auto part stores

Has anyone used plastic paint on outdoor playgrounds or toys, like the Little Tikes kind? Problems? Results?
I have several outdoor toys that are all that plastic-type stuff: playground, 6 ride-ons, 5 power-wheels, slides, toyboxes, etc.
I'd like to know:
* what you used to repaint?,( Krylon Fusion??),
*did you prime anything?,
*were there any problems when applying it?,
*did it go a long way or did you need to buy way too many cans?
*were you satisfied with the finished result?
*did it last or is it already wearing off again?
Thanks everybody.Has anyone used plastic paint on outdoor playgrounds or toys, like the Little Tikes kind? Problems? Results?
I have bought Several Little Tikes Items for my Son at Garage sales and on Craigs list for Cheap because they were faded.
I use the Krylon Fusion paint on them and it works wonderful! But you need to clean it really good first. It says on the can to use an Amonia based cleaner on weathered plastic.
First I Break out the hose(or take to the car wash) and scrub it off real good using a stiff brush and soap. After it dries I use the Amonia cleaner and a stiff brush to clean it. Make sure you get it as clean as possible. I also sometimes use a scotchbrite pad with the Amonia base cleaner.
After it dries it is ready to paint!
Like I said I use the Krylon Fusion and do light coats so it doesn't build up too thick and run.
You don't need a primer since this paint is made for the plastic.
I used it on our Little tikes rocket slider and it took 1 1/2 cans of red to do the dome and slide.
I also did out little tikes Dumptruck sand box. It turned out Awesome! I did some customizing with the paint. Wish I could post you a picture. It is holding up Very Well!
Been on there over a year and still looks great!
I'm very Satisfied.
The keys in the Prep! Remember that.

Krylon Fusion is the only paint that I've found that would stick to the Power Wheels car that my son has. We got it at a garage sale and much like the answer above mine, we washed it thoroughly. Light coats are the key in order to give it a great look. Good luck
sorry haven't used none of those!!
Krylon makes a special paint for plastics. It's a spray paint and works great...but, make sure what you are painting is really clean. I'd use a Mr. Clean heavy duty magic eraser to clean it really good. The paint goes a long way and bonds well to the plastic. It's also water clean up before it dries and once dry, what ever you paint wipes clean too.

What is the best way to go about painting outdoor siding?
You don't say what type of siding you have, wood, composite or vinyl. Assuming it is wood or composite, you will need 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of latex. You can brush, roll or spray apply. Brushing and rolling take longer, but many feel you get better coverage than spraying. What is the best way to go about painting outdoor siding?
sprayWhat is the best way to go about painting outdoor siding?
Just make sure you do all the proper preparations - washing, scraping, priming, etc. or the paint won't stay on for very long. Buy decent paint with UV protection and fade resistance too.
I've done my cedar sided house only 2x in 15 years and I only did it the 2nd time because I wanted to change the color.

By outdoor siding do you mean T-1-11 or aluminum? If you can rent a paint sprayer this is the best way but you will still have to use a brush to get the paint to cover in the cracks. Depending on wood or aluminum will dictate what kind of primer to use. Ask your local hardware store paint department. They will have the answer to that.

What is the best way to market an outdoor teen summer painting group?
I want to have two sessions, once a week for 6 weeks of outdoor watercolor painting in my area. I need help getting started and would like to find the best way to gain interest. I thought of contacting the local school and seeing if the art teacher thinks that there is an interest. Also, placing an ad in the newspaper. Help! What is the best way to market an outdoor teen summer painting group?
Ask local art shop to put up posters (they may well sell more products and may even give you a discount on your equipment); posters in schools and leisure centres. Good to get local teachers involved. perhaps even let your newspaper know and see whether they will do a small article on the idea. remember, the parents may pay for the course, and may encourage their children to take part, so advertise where adults will see as well. What is the best way to market an outdoor teen summer painting group?
I think you should definately contact local art teachers and ask them to tell their students about it maybe. If there is a crafts store or art supply store in your area you could try asking the owner if you could advertise there. Unless it is free i definately wouldn't post an ad in the newspaper. Most people, and particularly teens almost never read the newspaper. The internet is the source of news for just about all teens right now. Also if there is a movie theater in the area you could ask them if you could put up an ad on a window or the wall outside.
I'm planning on starting a community theater so I can relate. Try advertising at libraries, near computers or in the ';teen'; section or popular teen hang-outs like local cafes or restaurants. Go to places that specialize in teen activities like our town has a Recreation and Parks which provide after school activities or summer activities to all ages. Def go to the schools and get it out there and in the newspaper, although many teens don't really read the news paper, but parents do and they might mention it to their kids. The best way to spread news is simply by mouth so you just need to mention it to parents you know who have teens.
Good luck!

What kind of paint can i use on outdoor terracota pots apart from masonary paint?
you can use acrylic paint, get it quite cheaply in art supplies shops in a huge range of colour. Its waterproof and easy to use as brushes can be cleaned in water providing you wash them straight away. What kind of paint can i use on outdoor terracota pots apart from masonary paint?
I would apply a white undercoat and then use acrylic paint on top of it. Acrylic is waterproof and will resist fading and as mentioned already, is available in a multitude of colours from art shops or even stationery shops. Just try to resist the temptation of peeling it off when dry. What kind of paint can i use on outdoor terracota pots apart from masonary paint?
any emulsion-this will wash off after a while,or gloss-make sure this is totally dry before planting up
i've always heard that painting flower pots will kill the plants you put in them, maybe because they no longer have any air circulation, you might try one first before you do all of them

Do i need to use primer before painting an outdoor deck?
i am going to re-paint my deck. Beforehand I am going to strip the existing paint as best as possible and powerwash it. I want to apply some type of outdoor paint but do i have to primer it first?Do i need to use primer before painting an outdoor deck?
Power wash the deck and remove old paint. If you use a paint specifically for decking then you do not have to prime it. The paint for decking is supposed to penetrate the decking wood. If you prime it then it will not penetrate it. Now if you are talking about a porch floor which has a roof over it, then prime it first then paint. But use a paint specifically for porch flooring. Good luck.Do i need to use primer before painting an outdoor deck?
I guess I would like to see what happened to the existing paint. Did it peel off? Did you use a primer last time? I would tend to using an oil base primer maybe. It depends on what condition the deck boards are in. Are they treated lumber? Another thing to do would be to paint a small area and see how its going to work. You can paint it and overnight see how its going to do in the long haul.
If you are spraying it primer it,if you are brushing it paint it.Spray guns are for people who are to lazy to do it wright.Point in fact there is a house I painted with a brush next to a house paint with a spray gun that has been re=painted 3 times sense I paint my house and my house still looks better.
Growing up with my Dad, he used primer before, due the less amount of paint or stain that will soak/sink into the wood. After you get the desire effect you want, be sure to add ';Thompsons Water Protection Sealer';. This will save heartaches later from splitting wood from everyday weather. Not advertising for them but after trying different brands this was the best. Good Luck and God Bless
Yes absolutely! A good primer too! Primer is what helps the paint stick to whatever your painting.

I've never spraypainted before. What paint should I use on outdoor walls for designs? Any tips???
It's for a project I've been commissioned to do by my school. I'm painting an entire wall with my designs, but I'm mostly a paint and canvass person. I've never touched a spraypaint bottle, but they want me to do this. Help???I've never spraypainted before. What paint should I use on outdoor walls for designs? Any tips???
It's going to depend on what type of material the wall you are spraypainting is made of. If it's just plywood or regular drywall then any hardware store should have basic spraypaints that will work on either type of surface. And if this is something that will need to be used for a long period of time then i would strongly suggest priming the wall first (it helps the paint stick better). Aside from that if you aren't sure what to do about designs then I'd give stencils a try- they'll keep things clean-cut and they're pretty easy to use.I've never spraypainted before. good luck, I'd suggest you buy some tips for the spray cans, the ones that come with it spray very broadly and it is hard to make a line or shape let alone outline or detail. Try angling the can or practice first.

Indoor/Outdoor spray paint?
I have a stencil that I made that I want to spray paint onto a shirt, but my black fabric spray paint won't work even though it's brand new so I was wondering, If I were to use black indoor/outdoor spray paint (the kind you use on wood and metal and what not) would it stay on the fabric or would it wash off easily? Thank you :)Indoor/Outdoor spray paint?
When I use stencils and or other things to paint shirts with, I have found the best thing to do is get the fabric paint in the little squeeze tubes that you get at walmart. Take a brush, and get some paint and just dab it on the stenciled area while you're holding the stencil on the shirt. Put a piece of wood or hard flat surface that you are ok with getting paint on it underneath the shirt layer.
For example, if you're painting the front, put the board inside the shirt so it doesn't bleed through onto the back. This paint is sooo cheap, like less then 3$ a bottle, it goes a long way, and is totally washable/dyer safe.Indoor/Outdoor spray paint?
Canvas,
Spray paint may or may not stay on fabric. If you try it, wash it entirely alone so if it does come off, it won't ruin any other clothes. I would just use fabric paint, or acrylic paint with a medium for fabric made for acrylic paint.

Can Glidden paint be used outdoor... the interior kind?
The guy at home depot told us that any Glidden paint can be used indoor or outdoor..... I have fallen in love with Bonjour Beige and Saddlery.... but after thinking about it and looking around I am starting to doubt it can be used outdoors. Does anyone know? Can Glidden paint be used outdoor... the interior kind?
You can use it - it just will not hold up at all. Expect to repaint very frequently. Can Glidden paint be used outdoor... the interior kind?
While there have been many advancements in coatings, most manufacturers have different products for interior and exterior. These include fungicides, additives to slow the damaging UV rays so that the color won't fade, etc.
The good news is that the colors you have fallen in love with should be available in ana exterior coating. With computerized color matching, while Glidden makes good products, you can get a match with other manufacturers as well.

Does artists oil paint hold up when introduced to outdoor weather. Rain and Snow. Mediums such as scement?
I am an artist and i want to know if long term outdoor enviroment will ruin the oil paint ive used on my sculptures.Does artists oil paint hold up when introduced to outdoor weather. Rain and Snow. Mediums such as scement?
How well it holds up outdoors depends to a extent on how you treat the paint. Murals painted on exterior walls can last a lifetime if properly treated. If you're using oil paint instead of acrylics use a clearcoat of varnish over the paint. In fact use many coats if at all possible.
How long the paint will adhere to the sculpture also depends on what type of materials your sculptures are made of. It they are porous, like granite or marble, you shouldn't have any real problems. If they are being constructed of non-porous metal then you'll need to acitone the metal to create 'teeth' to bind the paint to the metal. If they are being made from wood then you'll need to pre-treat the wood before painting it. And in all cases you'll need to varnish the sculpture after the paint is applied.Does artists oil paint hold up when introduced to outdoor weather. Rain and Snow. Mediums such as scement?
not well. or i dont think so (wasn't ment to)
Try Acryilc paint. When it drys it just like plastic. but you can always find a good sealer for your work too
Dude!acrylic is waterbased, so if you paint that on you might not have any paint left after a rainstorm.Oil paint is exactly that-oil based, so it should hold(although its more expensive). If you're stil l not sure, you could use just about anything, and then cover it with a sealer or some kind of varnish.Keep on creating!

I have a white metal bistro set (1 table, 2 chairs). I'd like to paint it black. I have flat black outdoor
paint that says it can be painted right over rust. The table isn't rusty. My question? Do I need to do anything to prep that set before painting?I have a white metal bistro set (1 table, 2 chairs). I'd like to paint it black. I have flat black outdoor
Sand it lightly to give it some ';tooth'; so the paint will stick.
I'd give it a coat or 5 of satin or gloss varnish on top, just
to protect the paint and help it last longer. Remember to paint and or varnish underneath so the rust stays away.
Good Luck!I have a white metal bistro set (1 table, 2 chairs). I'd like to paint it black. I have flat black outdoor
For the sanding part you can use the scouring type pad instead of sandpaper.
Scuff the existing paint up a little with a metal sandpaper
I would wash the set first with a strong soapy mixture and let it dry prior to painting. If there are any rough spots you might want to do a light sanding or use a wire brush on it prior as well.

How do you paint outdoor glass blocks? ?
how do you paint outdoor glass blocks? What kind of paints? What's the best way?

I've been wondering the same thing myself.
I've been dying to try a suggestion I received, so I'll pass is on to you, hope it helps.
I'm assuming that they are already in the house, so to paint the inside, go to your local craft store and buy glass paint, comes in every color!
I wanted to paint the inside of the glass, so they told me to get a small ceramic drill bit and make a hole in the glass.
Then put the glass paint inside and swirl around to get the desired effect.

How do I refinish a painted outdoor bench made from yellow cedar and pine?
The bench was painted with dark brown paint. The paint flaked off from the yellow cedar, but stuck to the pine. Now I removed the paint from the visible parts as good as I could. On the the underside and the back I will leave the old paint. Which product will adhere well to the yellow cedar and the pine? I would prefer a darker color because for the legs and support- 2x4s scrap wood has been used which is of different shades.I want to be sure that no cloths will be stained when sitting on the bench. How do I refinish a painted outdoor bench made from yellow cedar and pine?
You have two options 1st you can prime it all then apply any paint or 2nd if you use a high quality paint (top shelf) it will be self priming and also coverage will be much better along with increased durability. I would recommend Duration exterior coatings available at Sherwin Williams for about $40 a gallon. I know this is a little pricey but remember paint is cheaper than labor.Since you have different woods I don't think staining would turn out to good because of the different colors of your base woods (ceder %26amp; pine) It would be hard to obtain an even color without the repairs being obvious. How do I refinish a painted outdoor bench made from yellow cedar and pine?
Use a primer before painting.
i would certainly stain the bench, not paint it and I would remove all the old paint, regardless if you can see it or not. paint does not allow wood to breathe. i would find a color you would like (you can purchase samples at lowes for about 39 cents a peice.)
You will start with a wood conditioner after you have sanded the surface. If it is rough wood, you may have to get a paint stripper.
After the conditioner has soaked in long enough, then you will stain the wood and follow with a clear sealant.
It sounds beautiful already!
Good luck!

I am going to paint a mural on an outdoor brick wall. What is the best paint to use? Thankyou for your help!?
I would think that an exterior paint would be the best way to go.I am going to paint a mural on an outdoor brick wall. What is the best paint to use? Thankyou for your help!?
acrylic paint will survive best on exterior work...if at all possible us an acrylic exterior masonary paint...after using a good exterior acrylic masonary primer (or bonding primer which is what i use.)
you may want to get the primary colours in the exterior acrylic and mix your own colours from them....it is a bit of work and a royal pain, but it is really the only way to make it work out for very long at all...
a friend of mine did a mural on a stucco wall by a garden several years ago and i drove by it the other day and it still looks good and that is what she did.I am going to paint a mural on an outdoor brick wall. What is the best paint to use? Thankyou for your help!?
montana spray paint
or alien if you want a low pressure can for fading and shading

Does anyone know any good books or websites on painting outdoor cement?
This would be a simple decorative project to brighten up a cement yard that is old and drab. No real art work just solid colors over an area that gets sun and shade. We need to know what is the best process and products to create a great end result. Some helpful tips would be great. ThanksDoes anyone know any good books or websites on painting outdoor cement?
Check out www.Behr or www. Cabot for their stains. They do have them for cement. They will give you information on application. You could always rely on the Home Improvement stores, like Lowes and Home Depot. HGTV.com can also give you some different looks.
Also try concretenetwork.comDoes anyone know any good books or websites on painting outdoor cement?
Well I saw something on HGTV that made me wish a had a cement patio so I could paint it. You can go to home depot or lowes and CEMENT PAINT. It comes in a few diffrent colors. The example they did was... They painted the flat cement slab with a brown color... and actually the took this stencil.. with alot of loops and stuff... looks fancy... and after the brown paint dried.. they had a smaller can of white. and painted the stencil on top of the brown... SO basically is an ';outdoor'; Rug that you never have to wash or move.. and they set thier paito set on top of that with some planters... it was soooo nice.. AND CHEAP!dry hair

How do you refinish really old metal outdoor furniture w/lots of layers of paint on it?
WROUGHT IRON FURNITURE, ANTIQUE, LARGE SOFA SIZE SOFA WITH 2 CHAIRS, REALLY HEAVY AND BIG. IN PERFECT SHAPE BUT JUST LOOKS TERRIBLE WITH ALL THE PAINT CHIPPING OFF OF IT. DON'T REALLY HAVE THE MONEY TO SANDBLAST OR ANYTHING. ANY SUGGESTIONS?How do you refinish really old metal outdoor furniture w/lots of layers of paint on it?
Improving Wrought Iron Furniture
Remove any peeling paint and trouble spots with a wire wheel attachment on a drill. Remove mildew with a mild bleach and water solution and a rag. Remove rust by applying a rust remover and allowing to dry. A wire brush can help in removing rust.
Apply spray primer in a well-ventilated area. This will coat bare metal areas and seal any possible rust remaining on the chair. Apply two light coats of spray paint. Always read manufacturer suggestions for any paint application tips. Once the paint has dried, you are done. A project like this only costs around 15 dollars and takes about three hours, but up to 48 hours to dry.How do you refinish really old metal outdoor furniture w/lots of layers of paint on it?
Remove the old paint before doing anything else.
For the beat finish, sand or bead blasting, but if the money is not available then wire brush preferably drill attachment.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck.
P.S. It will be hard work and take some time.
If the paint's that bad it may come off with a powerful pressure washer
use a good liquid paint stripper, a wire brush and a lot of elbow grease. Or take it to a sand blasting company and have them remove the old paint
Get a wire stripper attachment for drill gun.

What is the ideal temperature for outdoor painting(gloss onto metal, garage door).?
Hi,
If you are going to Gloss paint to Metal.try and wait till May its the best time of the year for any outside painting as all the icy weather will be gone,
you will find that it will last longer, as you know rust will form, if paint is not dry, as it takes approx 72 hours to cure. May I also suggest that you don't paint in the direct sunshine as blistering can occur.
Best time to paint is round about 10:30am as the morning due will be gone. wish you luck. What is the ideal temperature for outdoor painting(gloss onto metal, garage door).?
Anything above 50. 掳F @ night you don't want the temp to go below that. %26amp; oh BTW as long as the temp is above 50 @ night anytime of day is good. However don't paint it with the sun beating on it if possible you'll run into more problems. What is the ideal temperature for outdoor painting(gloss onto metal, garage door).?
It will tell you on the side of the tin.
Wait until its a bit warmer , and drier, just one point if they face the sun , then dark coloured paint is more prone to blistering
Better not in hot sun. Never in damp conditions, even if they are only atmospheric.

I have some outdoor furniture chairs and a large table dark green plastic can I change the colour spray paint?
Any ideas on what I can do to make it look a bit nicer old will need to wash want to vamp it up a bitI have some outdoor furniture chairs and a large table dark green plastic can I change the colour spray paint?
Hi,
The Krylon paint is called fusion, while it is made for plastics it will also work on wood, metal etc. Apply in thin coats for faster drying %26amp; a smooth finish.I have some outdoor furniture chairs and a large table dark green plastic can I change the colour spray paint?
Yes, you can change the color of your outdoor furniture with spray paint. There is a product by Krylon especially formulated to transform plastic furniture to look fresh and new. You can find it at your local home center. My advise would be to prep the the furniture by using the new sponge ';Magic Eraser'; as it is a superior product that seriously cleans any surface. Good Luck and enjoy the summer.

A good place to paint outdoor, in NJ and Maine?
If you live near the top portion of the state of NJ (northern NJ) check out the NJ Highlands. There are lots of state parks and public open spaces just perfect for plein air painting! Check out Ringwood NJ!!! If you live more towards the center of the state or further south, the NJ shore is wonderful. Island Beach State Park and Long Beach Island are pretty. The Pine Barrens and Cape May are nice too.
Maine, well there are lots of places to paint there. Monhegan, Port Clyde, Stonington, Acadia etc.dry hair

Can you paint outdoor plastic loungers?
I want to improve some old plastic patio loungers whats the best wayCan you paint outdoor plastic loungers?
Not effectively or well, No.Can you paint outdoor plastic loungers?
YES!!!!!!! Although there are paints advertised specifically for plastic items, all you need is a good quality spray paint. You will need to clean %26amp; dry the item first. Make sure you do this on a not so windy day, so you get the paint where you want it, and not all over the place.
There is a possibility that the paint wont adhere to the plastic.
Pressure wash really good then spray paint, they have some that repells water

Paint For Outdoor Water Fountain?
We have an outdoor water fountain that runs from spring to late fall. I need to repaint it, including the basin, but want to go with a paint that is as waterproof as possible. In the past, I have just used cheap grey spray paint.
Is there something else that would work better. Also, would coating it with clear polyurathane add more protection to the part that is constantly underwater. Keeping in mind that birds do drink from it.
Thanks,
Steve in OHIOPaint For Outdoor Water Fountain?
if it is cement , you need to wet the whole thing down with vinegar to prepare it to accept the paint first.Iet it dry, then go with rustoleum spray paint.... not a cheap spray paint. That is where you are going wrong. I have a cement birdbath that i painted about 14 years ago with the vinegar and then rustoleum treatment and I think I may need to re-touch it this coming spring.Paint For Outdoor Water Fountain?
use an oil based paint cause that is what i use on my bird bath . as a matter of fact I just got through painting it last month and it matches a wood bench that i repainted . the bird bath holds water I just did not paint it where the water goes cause that will poison the birds . but in a water fountain I guess it would not matter . but my suggestion is to use an oil based paint.

I want to redo an outdoor wicker chair that has faded through weather. What kind of paint should I use?
I am giving a wicker chair a touch up job but I am unsure what product to use. Should I use lacker? Oil? Stain? Varnish? What kind of finish do I need for RATTAN?I want to redo an outdoor wicker chair that has faded through weather. What kind of paint should I use?
Wicker is very difficult to paint because paint doesn't adhere to it very well. A specialist primer like Bullseye 123 or something that claims to prime ceramic walls tiles is best. Leave a full day before before going onto the next type of paint. After priming you have a choice. You can go straight on with a finish paint, eggshell or even spray car paint or if you want you can first put the appropriate undercoat before your finish coat. The purpose of this is twofold. It acts as a non-slip mat between the hard surfaces of your primer and finish coat and also, as a softer paint acts as a cushion to absorb knocks and give more chance your finishcoat will not chip.I want to redo an outdoor wicker chair that has faded through weather. What kind of paint should I use?
I would use Krylon spray paint. It will weather proof it and get into the nooks and cranies that a brush won't get to. It will dry more evenly on Rattan.
Krylon Interior-Exterior spray paint http://www.krylon.com/main/locator.cfm
Also comes in over 40 colors!

A semi-gloss is best for wicker. It should last 10 years at least. It is available in most colors and should be sprayed on. Make it beautiful.
Light colour stain,to keep the nature of the cane.

What procedure do I take to paint latex over oil base (outdoor veranda)?
You should be able to use a top quality exterior latex paint over oil based paint, if the surface is well prepared. (However, if the old paint consists of a buildup of say 5 or more coats of old oil paint, the safest approach is to continue with oil, because the latex paint can lift the old oil paint if not adhering well.)
All dirt, mildew and loose paint should be removed. Sand any glossy areas to eliminate the gloss and get maximum adhesion from the new paint. NOTE: do not sand or otherwise remove any old paint if it may contain lead. Call the EPA at 1-800-424-LEAD for guidance. Some quality exterior latex paint may be applied directly to clean, sound oil-based paint; but check the product directions, as some manufacturers will require a primer, either latex or oil-based.What procedure do I take to paint latex over oil base (outdoor veranda)?
Exterior Oil base paint is nasty stuff...peels as wood swells and shrinks with varying humidity. Scrape ANY blistered or peeling paint , sand the rough spots. Apply a primer and paint with exterior grade latex, Semigloss will be easiery to wash and keep clean. Any new wood, prime and paint with Exterior grade Latex ONLY. Good luck with a nasty job. What procedure do I take to paint latex over oil base (outdoor veranda)?
you can paint latex over oil paint as long as you use a primer to cover it first
it sucks but the best thing to do whould be to strip off the existing paint

Acrylic paint or latex enamel paint will do fine, but hardware stores will carry outdoor specific paints.
Anyone know about outdoor painting?
I primered my new storage room in Dec.07 but never got around to painting it.We've had hardly any rain, less than 10in. since. Is it ok to paint it now or do I need to apply another coat of primer first?Anyone know about outdoor painting?

Can one use interior paint and then seal it with sealant? (for outdoor use)?
No, don't do this. It's a waste of your time and money as the results won't be satisfactory. Just do the job right the first time and it'll last much longer. Can one use interior paint and then seal it with sealant? (for outdoor use)?
no. well, yes you can but, its not going to last and it going to make a huge mess. do it once and do it right.

So I draw all sorts of things, and my cousins grandmother asked i could design her backyard wall.
The wall in her yard is concrete.
I have a great idea of what to use{i.e. power washer, primer/sealer}
but i just want to know from you guys, whats the best materials I should use so this design is beautiful and permanent.

After you do what you are going to do then clear it. Its a clear spray that protects anything you cover. You may want to re-clear it every year to keep paint from fading!

I used rust prevention indoor/outdoor spray paint on my charcoal grill. Is this safe?
William is correct. An auto parts will carry different hi temp paints. Engine paint is good up to about 500 degrees. Header paint is good to 1500 degrees, and will work very well for a grill. Hope this helps.I used rust prevention indoor/outdoor spray paint on my charcoal grill. Is this safe?
yes as long as you did not paint the inside.
it will burn off again, so next time go to an auto store and get some high heat paint,
wire brush it down then paint it.I used rust prevention indoor/outdoor spray paint on my charcoal grill. Is this safe?
It won't harm you but it wil bake off. You need to use a heat resistant paint next time.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:
http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/
I can relate to your situation because I also have dark wood trim in my home %26amp; I did a cabin/lodge/Northern Exposure type of decor. I painted my living room/dining room ';Nomadic Desert'; (# 6107), and then I have dark wood accent furniture, a chili pepper red rug, buffalo plaid seating, heaps of plants %26amp; artwork featuring moose %26amp; bears %26amp; eagles %26amp; other outdoor scenes.

A soft yellow beige (think unfinished raffia or wicker) would be a warm traditional combo or you could use a cool bluish gray that would be great with modern elements. (Stacked stone or slate accents will make it more organic) Keep to the lighter end of the paint chip and choose slightly less ';bright '; shades of these colors to keep it more sophisticated. Lighten floors with a sisal or more traditional throw rug.
I like a butter yellow with cherry woodwork, but if you want an outdoors look, try a light sage green. Go to this site and consider ';Lantern Light'; or '; Majolica Green';. Good luck!

a nice light green or a dark hunter green would look really cool. i wold prefer the dark but im not into light colors. good luck!!
A nice greenish gray is pretty with cherry.
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I can relate to your situation because I also have dark wood trim in my home %26amp; I did a cabin/lodge/Northern Exposure type of decor. I painted my living room/dining room ';Nomadic Desert'; (# 6107), and then I have dark wood accent furniture, a chili pepper red rug, buffalo plaid seating, heaps of plants %26amp; artwork featuring moose %26amp; bears %26amp; eagles %26amp; other outdoor scenes.

What is the differance between marine paint ;;and say outdoor paint??
Both have the same qualities - heat (weather)resistant, anti fungus growth, anti peeling. Outdoor paint is usually an emulsion type which means it is water based.
Marine paint, in addition to the above qualities, also have an anti fouling inhibitor - i.e. stops growth of marine organisms such as barnacles and wood borers. Also marine paints are all oil based and not water based. What is the differance between marine paint ;;and say outdoor paint??
The big difference is in the formulation. Marine enamels for example have additional UV inhibitors and additional additives to battle salt intrusion to increase the paint life for the tough marine environment. Marine paints tend to ';level'; out better when applied as finish is usually important.
As you get into the more sophisticated paints such as the polyurethanes (Imron, Awlgrip), they are specially developed for marine and aircraft applications and endure for many years under extremely harsh conditions, but are very expensive.
Ordinary ';outdoor'; paint would hardly last a season in a marine environment.

What removes old Paint from outdoor brick on a house?
Sandblasting will damage the bricks you need a pressure washere with a medium to fine tip stay back 2 feet to start with then come in a little closer till either the paint is coming off if you get within 8 inches or so, back off because you might damage bricks with the water pressure. Don't use a little walmart special go to a rental store and get a nice one with plenty of pressure.
Another thing to try is called GOOF-OFF is a paint remover, use this with a wire brush, no the goof off won't cause stains or damage your bricks, keep a garden hose close by cuz the paint will come off and look smeared from the wire brush the garden hose will wash away the cleaned area.
One more tip is Muratic Acid you will need chemical gloves saftey glasses and a wire brush, follow the directions.
Order i'd try is goof off $4.95 for a small can, will not hurt your skin
Pressure washer about $25.00 half day rental
Muratic Acid, Gloves, Eye protection $20.00

Can I use Krylon Fusion paint on my 1 year olds outdoor climbing cube?
that paint works well with plastic i used it to paint my airsoft guns black and it works but remember the paint is probably toxicCan I use Krylon Fusion paint on my 1 year olds outdoor climbing cube?
I have been looking for paints that bond well and are safe for use on plastic parts for fish tanks/ponds. I've seen many people who say they have used Krylon Fusion and it has been safe after giving it proper time to dry/cure before use.
Krylon's website also says that all of their products will be non-toxic when dry.Can I use Krylon Fusion paint on my 1 year olds outdoor climbing cube?
I wouldn't. A child's body is more sensitive than an adults. Do you really want to use something that could do them damage? All paints have some type of toxicity.

What temp is too cold for outdoor painting?
I keep seeing that it should be at least 50 degrees. Does that mean it should also remain above 50 overnight, or just be 50 or more at the time of applying the paint? So, 50 for how long after applying the paint for it to come out ok?What temp is too cold for outdoor painting?
Read the label of the paint, all paint brands vary. Humidity also will affect the drying time. I have painted below the recommended temperature and had good results, just make sure the surface is completely clean and sanded so the paint can grip properly. Most paint's need at least 4 hours to dry to touch, but 24 hours to cure completely. If you NEED to get the painting done, I'd say do it, but if it can wait, wait.
You did not say how far below 50 it will drop, if it is from freezing to 45, I would consider holding off if possible. You could also use a fan to increase the drying speed. What temp is too cold for outdoor painting?
I just asked this question 2 days ago at HOme Depot and they told me that the emp. should be above 38 overnight and that the best times to paint in cold weather is between the hours of 10:00am -2:00pm because this alows for the sun to be the warmest then and it will have time to dry before nightfall
The answer will depend on what kind of paint youre using. Some self-priming paints available from Sherwin Williams and Home Depot can be painted at a much lower temperature. It will say on the can, or just make a couple calls.
It should stay ar least 50 for the better part of at least 4 hours.

Where can i buy outdoor acrylics to paint large mural?
i paint indoor murals and have recently painted an outdoor mural in gloss paint but iam wanting to paint in acryliics, the only outdoor acrylics i can find are sold in very small quantities can you help (the cheaper the better)?Where can i buy outdoor acrylics to paint large mural?
Use a good company waterbased house paint- I like satin myself. Make sure your base/primer is good and liquid sandpaper works great as an adhesion if your working on an older paint surface etc. I also use a anti-graffiti clearcoat over the top. They run about 30-40.00 a gallon and go really far. I only used 1/3 of a gallon when I did an 11x20 foot Ballwall at the local elementary. Sherwin-willaims,Dunn-Edwards etc. carry them. Kilz is a good base coat (available at Lowes, Home Depot,Walmart even, and they have many colors plus they come in those nice newer plastic containers,so much easier than cans. 10-QT/15-20.00 Gallon. You can inter mix with the smaller paints for odd colors. The ceramacoat Patio Paint does great. I've even done a hop scotch on cement and its held up for 4 years....GOOD LUCK! PS--check the paint ';seconds'; that are mis-mixed at the paint store or section, they will sell them to you for about 3-6.00 a gallon to get them off their hands, and many times I get them donated.Where can i buy outdoor acrylics to paint large mural?
Like those warehouses, where they sell wood, and D.I.Y. stuff.
I think Homebase or B%26amp;Q is probobly your best option. If you are going to art shops for the paint then they will only sell the smaller quantities your have mentioned. Remember that whatever paint you use the surface you are painting on has to be strong, dry and clean and that the weather will distress it with time. Good luck!
just go to home depot and get basic latex paint, have them mix it for you. its cheap and pretty good quality. that way you get plenty of paint for a low cost.
I've painted many outdoor murals in New Mexico and beleive it or not I use regular house painters acrylic (semi-gloss or flat latex). This paint doesn't require an over coat, can be mixed for more colors and lasts along time. Sometimes you can buy it cheap from hardware stores that have had paint returned. I have even found partial cans in thrift stores and garage sales. Sometimes friends have given me their leftovers from home decor projects.dry hair

The only place I have seen a stable place like that is in Paris. Besides, it's cold in Frankfurt... those starving artists are inside. Is there an outdoor painting group for artists in Frankfurt?
There are probably several. If you find a gallery in Frankfurt, ask them if they know of any outdoor landscape painters.

Metallic Gold Outdoor Paint Question?
So I have spray painted an outdoor alloy flower pot metallic gold. It's an outdoor flower pot though, so I need to make the metallic gold paint waterproof. What do I use to make METALLIC gold paint waterproof?Metallic Gold Outdoor Paint Question?
I would use a water based exterior poly with uv inhibitors. The is not a benefit to using an oil based product. Do not use anykind of lacquers.Metallic Gold Outdoor Paint Question?
Use a spray clear lacquer in light coats, as many as you can but light so it does not run.
Just look for a finish that indicates exterior, as they use on boats etc., might be a varathane.

I want to paint a birdhouse for outdoor use, what would be the best type of paint to use?
a tough exterior paint like, sears weather beater.I want to paint a birdhouse for outdoor use, what would be the best type of paint to use?
exterior paint...*I want to paint a birdhouse for outdoor use, what would be the best type of paint to use?
if the birdhouse is made out of wood, treat the wood first with and wood protector then paint with a wood paint for out door use. you can buy this stuff at any home improvement store, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.
good luck!
It is really not what kind of paint you use its how you seal it.I have made birdhouses with craft acrylic paint since it comes in so many colors but I always seal my project with krylon craft sealers. You can find it at most craft stores or hardware stores.
Raw wood will deteriorate over time. Rain, sleet, ice, heat and wind will age the wood. Paint and varnish will protect the wood and keep it from rotting, cracking and splitting.
# If you use paint or varnish to preserve the wood, be sure it is not lead-based paint. Lead is very toxic to both humans and animals. Birds may peck at the painted wood and ingest some of the paint so it is important to use a safe paint. Generally, latex paints are fine.
# You can use a natural oil on the outside of the house.
Use one that is food safe, such as linseed oil, not petroleum-based oil, for maximum safety.
# Use paint or linseed oil only on the outside of the house. Baby birds will peck and eat small bits of paint or wood on the inside of the house as they grow larger and larger. The inside of the house should be left as natural wood only.
# As for color of paint, consider where parent birds build their nests in the wild. The nests are well hidden to keep predators away. Although a brightly painted birdhouse is fun to see and a delight to our human eyes, it will draw unwanted attention to itself, placing the baby birds in more potential danger. Use neutral colors, a soft green, tan, or brown, to paint the house. Bring bright flashy colors into your backyard and garden in the form of garden ornaments or stepping stones or flowers. Help keep your backyard bird families as safe as possible by helping the birdhouse blend into its surroundings.

Does anyone know how to get paint (like outdoor paint) off siding?
I have tried soap and water, goo gone and nothing works?Does anyone know how to get paint (like outdoor paint) off siding?
Power washer is probably your best bet.Does anyone know how to get paint (like outdoor paint) off siding?
how about paint thinner.
Simple Green cleaner.
If the paint hasn't been on for along time,a good hand cleaner just might do the trick.Otherwise I suggest turpentine or even a paint remover like Stripeze or Kutzit.
Rent a power washer. It will take the paint off, but be careful not to gouge the siding.

I am going to paint a mural on an outdoor brick wall. What is the best paint to use? Thankyou for your help!?
I have seen a mural painted with the actual colorant used to color oil/latex paint. It was then coated with a waterproofer and was still in good shape 20 years later.
The name of the colorant is COLORTREND and can be special ordered from your local paint store. I thought that using the pure color pigment was a little unorthodox until I saw the results, it was amazing

What is the best paint to use for an outdoor mural, and what are the benefits and downfalls of that paint?
You can buy all kinds of fancy artist paints, but my favorite is 1 gallon sizes of exterior house paint. They are made to withstand the elements, most are now water wash and not very expensive. I even go through the paint department everytime I to to Lowe's, Home Depot, or Sherwin Williams paints and I check their ';oops'; section. They mix up something for a customer and if it's not exactly correct, they put it in the ';oops'; section for a cheep price, $2.00 maybe $3.00 a gallon. If it is a good color (and they all are) I buy it and add to my stash of paints. I'm never low on paint.
If you buy paints that are the same brand as the undercoat you probably will not need a primer, they will bond OK. If you don't know what the undercoat paint is, a sanding block, or some steel wool will scratch up the paint so your need paint will bond. The sun will even help to set them more permanently. Happy painting!
lynWhat is the best paint to use for an outdoor mural, and what are the benefits and downfalls of that paint?
It depends entirely on the type of surface you're painting on. If you're painting on concrete or concrete block, you need a masonry paint that will stick. The advantages is that it will last a long time, the disadvantages is that there aren't that many available colors and you'll have to be pretty good at mixing colors.
If you're painting on wood, regular outdoor enamel or flat latex will work fine. You can seal the surface later with polyurethane if you like.
you can also use this method on concrete if it's clean concrete. Prime with white masonry paint first. For wood, prime with outdoor primer first. Any good paint department, store or hardware store can point you to the right products. What is the best paint to use for an outdoor mural, and what are the benefits and downfalls of that paint?
First what surface you are painting on.
Do you need to wash the surface first.
You need to use primer. I would use something like oil kiltz maybe.
Try oil paints they last long, but acrylic or latex exterior paint might do.
It all depends what surface and what part of the country, is it dry wet , ocean salt?
again a very broad question.
good luck.

=18.80A tin of outdoor paint costs $17.50 and sells for $33. GST of 10% applies and what is the mark up price?
Hi,
Since a GST of 10% applies, I assume the selling price already includes the GST or general sales tax. So $33 = 110% of the shelf price, so the shelf price is 33/1.10 or $30 for the tin of paint. Since it cost the merchant $17.50, his markup was $30 - 17.50 or $12.50.
I hope that helps!!

What kind of paint should be used on tile for an outdoor table?
I am having second graders each paint a tile, which will then be put onto an iron table with a wood top. I do not have a kiln. I would like to use a paint that will withstand weather.
What paint would be best?
What type of sealer should I use?
Can I tile directly onto the wood top?
Someone told me I should bake the painted tiles in my oven, should I?
Please help, this project is for a school auction. Thanks.
- craft impairedWhat kind of paint should be used on tile for an outdoor table?
use Vitrail tile paint, apply light colours first: white, then yellow, then others in order. do not bake, clean up carefully with adult supervision, glue on to wood with exterior grade tile adhesive; when dry grout tiles with exterior grade grout or sand'cment mix. make sure edges of wood are sealed also. What kind of paint should be used on tile for an outdoor table?
You can use acrylic paint if you spray or paint the table afterwards with a sealant. You can buy clearcoat sealants at any craft store and the store employees should be able to tell you what they carry that would work best for that project.
Your other option is to have the children paint with glaze that can be baked in the oven. Liquidex Glossies is one type of paint that can be baked in the oven (there are other brands as well). Check with Michael's or your local art store to find out what they carry. I would still seal the tabletop regardless of what media you use.
I would just like to add that Home Depot carries a spray varnish from the Bull Dog brand that will seal glass or tile so it will take acrylic paint for out door use.. Then when the paint is dry you can respray it.
Acrylic paints clean up with soap and water. Also if you to to the www.liquitex.com they have a special school program and may give you the paint for free.
What paint would be best?
What type of sealer should I use?
Can I tile directly onto the wood top?
