I would like to use my air compressor and a spray gun to paint a set of outdoor decks.?

There are eight separate decks. The job is so big I'm looking for a way to do it more quickly. There are several hundred ballusters. If I use a garden-type sprayer I'm not sure I'll have the accuracy I need to do it quickly.I would like to use my air compressor and a spray gun to paint a set of outdoor decks.?
If you haven't used a spray gun with an air compressor before to be quite honest you'll spend an entire day practicing until you get it right. There are so many things to worry about, such as: the right amount of air pressure and getting used to the gun itself. If you would rather not waste your time on this kind of stuff, just go to Home Depot and buy an inexpensive Wagner hvlp. Its an electrical plug in. You add your outside sealer and thin it down and your set. The unit is under $90 bucks and is well worth it, even if you just use it this once. They have a ';home edition'; and a ';pro edition'; The ';home edition'; will do the job!! Time=Money

Remember to properly clean the gun when finished though, in case you do decide to use it again! Good luckI would like to use my air compressor and a spray gun to paint a set of outdoor decks.?
A second option is a power roller, but I have never used one. You can RENT a strong 1 or more horsepower positive displacement paint sprayer and A1 rents or wherever, and it goes directly into the 5 gallon paint bucket. You might want to do that. Nothing will be faster than a positive displacement electric professional pump, and it will not heat the paint like the HVLP will. HVLP makes the air hot and can prematurely cure the paint before it hits the surface.
I use an HVLP sprayer with a turbine.

There are HVLP sprayers that work with compressors.

The HVLP sprayers waste less paint than conventional cup gun sprayers. HVLP sprayers have a transfer ratio of up to %80 (%80 of the sprayed material ends up on the surface you are spraying). The spray pattern can be adjusted to the width of the object being sprayed to help reduce waste.

You will still need to deal with and control over spray.

Plan this project for a day with still air; otherwise only %10 of the material will end up on target. Also set up a barrier behind what you are spraying to catch the material that misses.

HVLP stands for High Volume, Low Pressure
