I am an artist and i want to know if long term outdoor enviroment will ruin the oil paint ive used on my sculptures.Does artists oil paint hold up when introduced to outdoor weather. Rain and Snow. Mediums such as scement?
How well it holds up outdoors depends to a extent on how you treat the paint. Murals painted on exterior walls can last a lifetime if properly treated. If you're using oil paint instead of acrylics use a clearcoat of varnish over the paint. In fact use many coats if at all possible.





How long the paint will adhere to the sculpture also depends on what type of materials your sculptures are made of. It they are porous, like granite or marble, you shouldn't have any real problems. If they are being constructed of non-porous metal then you'll need to acitone the metal to create 'teeth' to bind the paint to the metal. If they are being made from wood then you'll need to pre-treat the wood before painting it. Try Acryilc paint. When it drys it just like plastic. but you can always find a good sealer for your work too
Dude!acrylic is waterbased, so if you paint that on you might not have any paint left after a rainstorm.Oil paint is exactly that-oil based, so it should hold(although its more expensive).If you're stil l not sure, you could use just about anything, and then cover it with a sealer or some kind of varnish.Keep on creating!
