Outdoor house painting and wood replacement...?

My home is mostly brick, but the soffit/facia/trim wood is all in need of a repainting. My handyman said the wood (about 30+ yrs old) needs to be replaced now, or in 5 years. Another option is to have all this covered in siding so it is maintenance free. Would I need to replace the wood for that option too? What's my best course of action? Thanks.Outdoor house painting and wood replacement...?
Bull sheet I have been painting houses for 25 years and have only replaced rotted wood , to replace it just because it is old is ridiculous, old wood is actually much harder than new wood, so the answer is NO

replace any rotten wood then paint using industry standard techniques

or cover with vinylOutdoor house painting and wood replacement...?
Hi,

What's his reason that the wood needs replacing? Never saw 30 year old house that required all the trim to be replaced. If it was that bad then covering it up is a worse solution. Get a carpenter to inspect the trim.
Paint won't last long on 30 year old wood.

If the wood is not rotted vinyl can be installed over it.

If it's near rotted, replace it.

Only an installer can tell, since I can't see it from here.
